Why Render Settings Are Locked and How to Change Them
Find out why RenderGod locks render settings while a job renders or after it finishes, and how to pause, duplicate or reset a job to change its settings.
RenderGod locks a job's render settings while it is rendering and after it has finished. This keeps every frame of a sequence consistent and protects the record of how a finished render was made. You can still change settings by pausing the queue, duplicating the job or resetting its pause point.
When settings are locked
| Job state | What is locked | How to change settings |
|---|---|---|
| Loading (newly imported) | Nothing to edit yet. Fields show grey placeholder bars. | Wait for loading to finish |
| Rendering or baking | All settings except Auto Create Video | Pause Queue or Duplicate Job |
| Finished (done) | All settings except Auto Create Video | Duplicate Job |
| Paused partway through its range | Only From Frame and To Frame | Reset pause and Unlock |
| Queued, paused at the start, failed or skipped | Nothing | Edit freely |
The lock banner

A banner at the top of the settings shows why the job is locked:
| Banner text | Buttons |
|---|---|
| "Settings are locked while this job is rendering." | Pause Queue, Duplicate Job |
| "This job is finished, so its settings are read-only." | Duplicate Job |
Clicking a locked field also shows a notification. While rendering, it reads "Settings are locked while rendering. Pause to make changes, or Duplicate to a new job." For a finished job it reads "This render is already complete" with a Duplicate Job button.
Change settings of a job that is rendering
Pause, edit and resume
- Click Pause Queue in the banner, or pause from the queue. This pauses the whole queue, not only this job.
- Edit the settings. The frame range stays locked if the job stopped partway through.
- Start the queue again. The job resumes with the new settings.
Duplicate the job
Click Duplicate Job. A queued copy of the job is added to the queue and selected, with all settings editable. The original keeps rendering. The copy gets its own output folder date or version, so it does not overwrite the original. See Duplicate a render job.
Change settings of a finished job
A finished job is a record of what was rendered. Click Duplicate Job, change the settings on the copy and start the queue.
To make a video from a finished job's frames, turn on Auto Create Video and choose Create Video Job in the notification. See Create a video automatically.
Edit the frame range of a paused job
When a job was paused partway, the frame range shows "Currently paused at frame N." Click Reset pause and Unlock to clear the pause point and edit the range. The job then renders its full range again from the start. See Set the frame range.
What still works while locked
- Auto Create Video can be turned on, off or changed at any time.
- The output path line and its open-folder button.
- Open location on File Output node folders.
- Previews, zooming and scrubbing.
