Advanced Cycles Settings and Film Transparent
Render Cycles frames with a transparent background in RenderGod using Film Transparent, and find the other Cycles speed and memory options for each job.
The Advanced section of a Cycles job holds Film Transparent, which renders the world background as transparent instead of a solid color or sky. Use it when the render will be composited over other footage, a web page or a different background.

Render with a transparent background
- Select a Cycles job.
- Click Advanced in the render settings card to expand it. It is collapsed each time you open the panel.
- Turn on Film Transparent.
- Set Format to a format that stores transparency, such as PNG | RGBA | 8 | (15%), WebP | RGBA | (90%) or any EXR | RGBA option. See Output image formats.
The job starts with the Film Transparent value saved in the scene.
| Film Transparent | Result |
|---|---|
| Off | The world (color, HDRI or sky) is visible behind your objects |
| On | Background pixels are transparent. The world still lights the scene and appears in reflections. |
Check transparency in the preview
The preview canvas shows a checkerboard behind transparent pixels by default. Switch to a black or white background in the preview card to judge edges. See Zoom, pan, scrub and play previews.
Keep transparency in the video
If you use Auto Create Video, choose a format that supports alpha, such as ProRes 4444 (Alpha) mov. H.264 and H.265 videos do not keep transparency.
Other Cycles settings
Most Cycles quality and speed options live elsewhere in the panel:
| Setting | Where | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Samples and adaptive sampling | Samples, Noise Threshold | Samples and noise threshold |
| Denoising | Denoiser | Denoising options |
| GPU device, persistent data, tile size | Optimization Overrides | Optimization overrides |
| Fast GI Approximation, texture limit, texture cache | Optimization Overrides | Optimization overrides |
Light bounces, caustics, motion blur and color management are not in RenderGod. Set them in Blender and save the file; the job uses them as saved.
